Sixteen finishes is a lot of choice. Here is a practical way to narrow it down to the right grain for your home and setting.
Start with the palette
Look at what is already fixed - roof colour, window frames, render, brick. A warm timber tone against black glazing reads differently to the same tone against a cream render. The finish should complement what is staying.
Match the tone to the mood
Pale grains like Blackbutt and Limed Oak keep a home light and coastal; deep grains like Walnut and Wenge make a bold, contemporary statement; warm mid-browns like Spotted Gum feel grounded and unmistakably Australian.
Consider the setting
A silvered Silvertop Ash suits a weathered coastal look; warm Teak feels resort-like around a pool. Think about where the finish sits and the light it will catch through the day.
Always view a sample
Screens flatten colour. Order a physical sample and look at it in your own light, against your own materials, before you commit. It is the single best way to avoid a finish that looked right online and wrong on the wall.
