Dark, moody facades are everywhere. Here is how to use deep woodgrain finishes so the result feels rich, not flat.
Dark needs warmth
An all-black or charcoal facade can read cold and flat. Introducing a deep timber grain - Smoked Oak, Wenge or Charred Timber - against the dark elements brings warmth and depth that pure colour cannot.
Contrast and texture
Set a deep woodgrain feature against render or black cladding, and add battens for shadow and texture. The interplay of matte dark surfaces and grained timber tone is what makes the palette feel considered.
Mind the heat
Dark finishes absorb more heat, so think about orientation and shading. Aluminium handles the thermal load predictably, but it is worth planning the dark elements with the sun in mind.
