What Aluminium Fencing and Gates Cost in Australia
Fencing is priced per linear metre, with posts, gates and sloping ground as the main variables. Here is how a woodgrain aluminium fence quote comes together in AUD.
Indicative pricing
Quoted in AUD against your drawings — the rate moves with finish, profile, quantity, fixing system and site access. We don’t publish a single headline rate because it would mislead.
How fencing is priced
Woodgrain aluminium fencing is generally quoted per linear metre of boundary at a given height, plus posts, caps and any gates. Boards, posts and rails in matching finish make up the run.
Gates and slope
Swing and sliding gates are separate, made-to-measure items. Sloping sites that need panels to rake or step, and automation on a driveway gate, add to the figure compared with a flat, simple boundary.
Value against timber and Colorbond
Timber palings are cheapest but rot, grey and need replacing; Colorbond is durable but plain. Woodgrain aluminium costs more than both but gives a lasting timber look with no rot, termites or re-oiling - the case is strongest on front and street-facing fences.
Getting an accurate quote
Give us the boundary length, the height, the number and type of gates, and whether the ground slopes. We will quote the fence and gates in AUD per metre and per gate.
What drives the price
Finish
Solid-colour powder coat sits at the lower end; a sublimated woodgrain finish carries a premium for the timber look. Darker and specialty grains can cost a little more than mainstream tones.
Profile and size
Board width, batten section and panel size change the metres of material and the fixing density. Wider boards can cover faster; closer batten spacing uses more metal per square metre.
Quantity
Like most building products, the AUD-per-square-metre rate eases as the job gets bigger. A single feature wall carries more setup cost per metre than a whole-house facade.
Fixing system
Concealed-fix systems cost more in componentry and labour than face-fixed, but give the clean, fastener-free look most architectural projects want.
Site and access
Two-storey work, scaffold, difficult access and complex setout add labour. A simple single-storey wall is the cheapest scenario.
Freight
Aluminium is light, but long boards and battens still need careful, sometimes palletised freight - more of a factor for regional and remote sites.
Cost questions
- How is fencing priced?
- Usually per linear metre at a set height, plus posts and any gates. Sloping ground and automated gates add to the figure. We quote in AUD per metre and per gate.
- Is a matching gate expensive?
- Gates are a separate made-to-measure line. A pedestrian swing gate is modest; an automated sliding driveway gate is more. We will itemise them in the quote.
- Is it worth the premium over timber or Colorbond?
- On a street-facing fence where appearance matters, or a coastal block where timber greys fast, the lasting timber look and zero rot usually justify the extra over palings or Colorbond.
