Patina

The change in a material's surface and colour as it ages and weathers.

Patina is the surface character a material develops as it ages - the silvering and texture of weathered timber, for example. Some designers want it; others want the day-one look held permanently.

Aluminium does not patina - it holds its installed appearance - which is a point in its favour or against it depending on the design intent.
