Sublimation

The heat process that fuses a woodgrain image into a powder-coated finish.

Sublimation is the process used to create the timber look on woodgrain aluminium. A film printed with a high-resolution grain is applied over a powder-coated profile, and under heat the ink turns to gas and diffuses into the coating rather than sitting on the surface.

Because the grain becomes part of the baked finish, it resists peeling and wear and does not expose a contrasting layer when scuffed - the key reason a sublimated finish outlasts a painted or wrapped one.
