An alfresco ceiling is the perfect place for a timber look - but real timber struggles outdoors. Here is why aluminium linings work so well overhead.
The overhead challenge
Outdoor ceilings cop heat, humidity and the occasional driving rain. Timber linings in these spots are prone to sagging, staining and rot, and they are awkward to re-oil once they are up.
Light and stable
Aluminium linings are light, so they are safer and faster to install overhead, and they stay dead flat - no sagging or cupping over the span. The baked finish holds its colour even on sun-exposed eaves.
Seamless with the rest of the build
Because the same woodgrain finishes run across cladding, battens and linings, your alfresco ceiling can match the facade and screens for one continuous, considered look from outside in.
Boards or battens
Closed boards give a solid, warm ceiling; spaced battens add rhythm and can conceal services or downlights between them. Both are popular for alfresco and entry ceilings.
