From pale Blackbutt to near-black Wenge, the woodgrain finish you choose sets the whole tone. Here is how to narrow it down.
Start with the mood
Light finishes like Blackbutt, Tasmanian Oak and Limed Oak feel open, coastal and contemporary. Mid-browns like Spotted Gum and Natural Oak feel warm and classically Australian. Dark finishes like Walnut, Smoked Oak and Wenge feel bold, modern and high-contrast.
Consider orientation and heat
Darker finishes absorb more heat, which can matter on large, sun-exposed elevations. On hot north and west walls, a mid or lighter tone can be the more comfortable choice. Our finishes are UV-stable either way, so fade is not the concern - heat gain is.
Match your palette
Look at your roof, window frames, render and stone. Smoked Oak and Grey Ironbark pair beautifully with black-trimmed contemporary homes; Spotted Gum and Teak warm up rendered and brick palettes; Limed Oak and Silvertop Ash suit coastal whites and greys.
Think about the setting
Coastal homes often lean to light, sun-silvered looks like Silvertop Ash and Limed Oak. Bush and rural settings suit the natural Australian hardwoods - Spotted Gum, Blackbutt and Grey Ironbark. Urban infill can carry the drama of Wenge or Walnut.
