Thermal Movement

The expansion and contraction of a material as temperature changes.

All building materials expand and contract with temperature. Aluminium moves predictably and is detailed to accommodate that movement, so cladding stays tight rather than buckling or pulling at fixings.

Unlike timber, aluminium does not also move with moisture, so its behaviour is easier to plan for through Australia's big daily and seasonal temperature swings.
